Local Area & Attractions

Corbridge is a lovely village/small town with independent shops, plus restaurants, cafes, and historic pubs. Corbridge railway station, which is within walking distance, is on the Tyne Valley Line between Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle with connections to both East and West Coast main lines. There is also an excellent bus service close by, including express buses to and from Newcastle. Hexham, 4 miles away, is a lovely little town with its Abbey and old Gaol, and of course, there is Europe’s biggest shopping mall at the famous Metrocentre, which is reachable by public transport. Corbridge English Heritage Roman Fort was a bustling town and supply base for food and provisions for both Romans and civilians. Today, you can walk through the town’s streets and experience Roman life. Objects discovered during excavations – the Corbridge Lion and Roman armour – are housed in the museum and give a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier. Nearby is also Housesteads Roman Fort and Vindolanda, the latter of which we find is an amazing place to visit.

SUGGESTION: If you would like to explore the area more:
Proctors Stead Caravan Park is a small, friendly site near Craster. It is a short walk into the village of Dunstan, where the Cottage Inn sells lovely food. There is also a bus stop in the village which goes to Newcastle, Alnwick, Bamburgh and Berwick on Tweed.
