Winchester Rally 12th - 15th August 2013

The rally took place at St. Cross Symondians Cricket Club, a picturesque setting overlooked by the St. Cross Alms Houses and close to the River Itchen.  Ideally placed with bus stops outside the grounds it was no wonder that that 29 Motorhomes attended the rally.

On the first afternoon Rita took those who wanted, on a pleasant walk along the riverside into Winchester so they could familiarise themselves with the route.   Whilst on the rally we were fortunate to have the use of the Club’s showers each morning and the cricket pavilion every evening.

With lots to see and do in Winchester many ralliers made this their destination on some of the days and on other days ventured further afield visiting such places as National Trust properties, Southampton to see the new Titanic exhibition and or undertake the Historic Town trail, some even squeezed in a visit to Ikea. The Watercress Line in the lovely Georgian town of Alresford drew several rail enthusiasts.  Such was the comprehensive public transport network that one couple went to the Isle of Wight for the day spending several hours there.

On Wednesday we had a very welcome Fish/Chicken Supper in the pavilion.  Many on the rally completed the local quiz devised by John and Rita and reported back that it took them to places and paths that they would not have otherwise visited so was very enjoyable.

All too quickly Thursday evening came round and the raffle was drawn.  Friday saw the departure of the ralliers to many different destinations.  Some went home or abroad, others to the Abingdon rally or en route to the C & W show at Malvern or wending their way to the Topsham rally.  How good it is when there is a link to another rally.

Thank you to Rita and John and Jean and John Gutsell for all the hard work both before and during the rally.
