 Topsham Rally - 2013

Topsham's Annual carnival

Topsham rally 20th - 24th August 2013

It was a certain amount of trepidation that the rally marshals prepared for the 10th rally at Topsham. So we were very happy when 3 days before the rally began, gates were erected at the Rugby club. I’m pleased to say we had no uninvited visitors. So it was a happy scene when 46 motorhomes rolled onto the site, many of whom came on a familiarisation walk through the town on the first afternoon.

Although the Rugby club is presently undergoing a large extension to the club house we had the use of the new function room and the new greatly improved toilet facilities.  Next year we will be able to use the two new showers rooms as well. The Club officials did their utmost to make our stay a good one which was greatly appreciated by all those on the rally.

During the rally it was Topsham's Town Fayre week and participation in the events by ralliers got off to a flying start when on the first day one member, and his handsome dog, won a prize in the Dog Show for 'the dog who looks most like his/her owner'!  Some members travelled far and wide by bus, train or bicycle whilst other members just enjoyed all that was on offer in the delightful town of Topsham. Many members undertook the walk on Wednesday from Topsham to Exmouth along the cycle/walkway enjoying lunch on the beach at Lympstone on the way.

The 3 day flower festival in the Parish Church which this year had the theme of "Wish you were here" was splendid and amusing. Many visited the Museum (free entry) if only to partake of a Devon cream tea. Thursday evening saw many going to watch the Morris dancers perform on the quay. The weather was very good except for the Friday evening when it rained just before we were due to have the planned BYO (bring your own supper) supper. However the Rugby Club allowed us to use the new function room so we had a good evening.

Saturday evening was Carnival night and most went into town to watch the small but enchanting procession.

All too soon Sunday arrived and the end of the rally. We hope to run the Topsham Rally again next year and look forward to seeing returnees and new faces at the rally.
