  Dunbar Rally - July 2014

Belhaven Bay CP, Dunbar - July 7th to 11th July

Fifteen Auto-sleepers arrived at Belhaven Bay on Monday 7 July, there should have been 16 but unfortunately Sandra & Bernie Wisely had to cancel due to severe coughs accompanied by sore throats; which others also developed in varying degrees after being at the same rally.

We were delighted to welcome new members Andrew & Monica Hogg who hail from Scotland. We were particularly pleased because for some reason few Scottish residents seem to attend rallies; we had two this time.

On the whole the weather was very good but Allan was renamed ‘Michael Fish’ after some of the walkers were soaked when he had predicted an early change from the torrential rain on Tuesday (it did clear up in the afternoon).

Most ralliers visited Dunbar, a nice little harbour town, some walking others by bus, which stopped outside the campsite gate. Some took the cliff top walk, giving a good view of Bass Rock, back to Belhaven.  Trips to North Berwick, Eyemouth and Edinburgh were enjoyed.  Carolyn & Ken Hughes even walked the twelve miles back from North Berwick.  The Scottish Museum of Flight, The Saltire Legend, Castles and Garden Centres provided other places of interest.  On how many other rallies can you board Concorde one day and visit The Royal Yacht Britannia the next?

A Boules match (Blackstock rules) was enjoyed on Wednesday evening and the final evening saw us enjoying a 3 course meal, price £8 at the West Barns Inn.

In concluding I take back what I have been telling everyone about the Scottish Midgies not invading the East Coast, although they are not as numerous as on the West Coast they are just as vicious.

Our thanks to everyone who attended; after all it is they who make a rally a success.
